Wood-dust Injection System & Burner Design, Install
and Controls
Utility Plant Solutions was contacted by Wilsonart: Solid Surface Counter-tops, Laminates and Metals for consultation on their wood-dust burning methods. The system consisted of an underfed stoker, which required Wilsonart to wet the dust in order for the stoker to work effectively. This method allowed the stoker to work effectively but caused deficiencies in the burning process due to a loss of BTUs required to now dry the dust prior to combustion.
Utility Plant Solutions partnered with AFS Energy (www.afsenergy.com) to design a new injection and burner system for Wilsonart. The design consisted of a dust blower that allowed dry dust to be injected at the rear of the incinerator and combusted while afloat within the incinerator. The design was able to produce upwards of 12k PPH of steam at
200 lb in the boiler.
